E-Learning Platform
The ubiquitous nature of mobile phones offers a noble environment where farmers can learn
informally anywhere, anytime and at any location. This is an innovative way to address some of the
weakness of conventional agricultural extension service. Technoserve noticed this early and got in touch
with us to develop a solution. . It is for this reason that the Kulima Academy was developed with the view to help facilitate farmers’ access to information. Kulima is designed as an eLearning Platform that incorporates the latest best practices in different value chain systems. Kulima uses two approaches to capacity development.
This is done through hosting a Training of trainers (TOTs) for agriculture extension staff. Training of trainers is the prerequisite for effective implementation of technical solutions in the field and an important step for their dissemination.
1. Cascade approach
The first is a cascade approach that empowers agriculture extension service providers with knowledge and skills for developing the capacity of farmers to increase the adoption of best practices in production.

2. Capacity Development
The platform serves as a repository of best practices in agriculture production. The platform creates a community of practice that is regularly updated latest information about these best practices in video format made by thought leaders in different value chains. Think of Wikipedia but for videos. Combining our performance-led design philosophy with self-service functionality, the Kulima Academy Platform enables more efficient learner management – on any android device, anywhere.
